Ever washed your hands and then grabbed an ice cube only to have it flash freeze and get stuck to your fingers? ![]()
It’s been VERY cold lately.
The ground is frozen.
All this to say, be very cautious next time you see ANY precip (mist, rain) even if temperatures are just above freezing.
Whatever is out there could briefly flash freeze to roads and overpasses.
THURSDAY SYSTEM:
– This is a reinforcing shot of cold air. Precip should miss us (flurries?). BUT, if there’s any mist or drizzle at all… know there could be slick spots
MONDAY SYSTEM:
– The image shown is Monday morning.
– Wintry weather (sleet/ice/snow) transitions to all rain.
– To me, this looks like a heavy rain event and not a winter storm at the moment.
– Rain totals probably around 1/2” to 1”; heaviest rain in S Arkansas lower totals in N Arkansas.
Just keep in mind the ground is frozen like an ice cube and even a tiny amount of mist or drizzle could cause a slick glaze on roads briefly.
This happened a few times in my career when we literally measured a ‘trace’ or 0.01” with a glazed donut slip-and-slide developing “out of nowhere”.
Times to watch for it:
– ThursdayPM/Friday AM
– Monday AM
