Temperatures are near or above freezing across much of Arkansas with below freezing temperatures confined to the highest elevations.
As of 6am, ARDOT and ASP are not reporting any ice covered roadways in Arkansas.
Be aware some bridges and overpasses could be slick in spots. This is mostly on high elevation bridges and overpasses along with highways 23, 16 and 71 in the Boston Mountains.
Later tonight, temperatures will once again dance around freezing with some wintry precip here and there.
As a general rule of thumb, road problems develop with its 28° or lower: 29°-32° is typically when ice forms on fences, signs and mailboxes… elevated stuff like that.
I haven’t been following forecasts circulating on social media but judging by the amount of calls/texts I received yesterday, there’s some wildly bad information out there. I know, right? Shocker. 🫢
As far as a huge ice and snow storm goes, yeaaaa… that dog ain’t gonna hunt with this one.
Remember & weigh those winter-weather-dramatic-pearl-clutchers accordingly. With other media, know that February is traditionally a major TV ratings month. That’s why major football events, award shows, season premieres and ‘special reports’ are on networks, just sayin’ 💁🏼♂️
In February, the sun angle gets higher and higher and while winter weather is possible as late as May, the major road issue fades and by March it usually melts off surfaces quickly.
This is Wednesday morning, temperatures continue near or above freezing across much of Arkansas with better chances for snow and freezing rain in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas.
The exception will be high elevations in the Ozarks (generally at or above 1,800ft) where light icing and/or snow is possible.
For reference, Fort Smith is 463ft and Rogers is 1,352ft, Winslow is 1,756ft in elevation and Mt. Gaylor is 2,083ft.
The next rain or wintry weather chance after this is this Saturday, looks mostly like rain to me.
