Colder Weekend with Sunshine; Freeze Tonight!

The showers and thunderstorms from overnight continued to move out of the area early on Saturday morning. Rain should be ending shortly with clearing skies and colder temperatures this afternoon. Highs may only reach the low to mid 60s.

Expect a freeze tonight! Lows will fall into the upper 20s and low 30s.

This is the surface chart for Saturday afternoon/evening. High pressure will build in from across Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas with clearing skies and calmer winds.

Clear skies, calm winds with high pressure overhead means we’ll have a very cold overnight but as the high presses east the clockwise flow will eventually shift to south winds which will warm us up.

This is the NBM (National Blend of Models) forecast for lows tonight. Most of the data shows freezing or near freezing temperatures in Northwest Arkansas with low to mid 30s in Fort Smith and potentially upper 20s to near 30º in Bentonville.

This is the first weather maker to arrive next week. Expect scattered showers and storms on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

This is a fast moving shortwave. At the moment, it doesn’t appear it’ll have much to work with for severe weather.

This is the next BIG system to watch. It arrives on Thursday evening and will likely have strong to severe thunderstorms as the strong cold front moves into a warm, humid airmass.

Watch this one for severe weather.
